Messy hair doesn’t care? Messy bun? Windblown hair?
How often are you tending to your hair? How many times a month do you perform a hair care routine?
In this post, we will be talking about hair care. Hair care is a part of self-care. It seems like a not so important part, but it is. Yes, we care to the extent that it is a part of our head which is part of our face, which we cannot hide all the time.
“Self-compassion is simply giving the same kindness to ourselves that we would give to others.” – Christopher Germer
Sometimes we just throw it in a ponytail and continue our day. We don’t think about our ends or our cuticles or our entire hair shaft.
Our scalp gets overlooked as well.
Why do we do this? Neglect our hair over and over? I believe that we do this not on purpose, but out of lack of time to dedicate to proper care due to urgent or other obligations that take so much time that we are too tired to commit to doing our hair.
So, what do we do? We throw it into a pony and keep it moving. Eventually our hair starts to misbehave and, in some cases, breaking off or thinning out or extreme tangling or maybe buildup that is 2 cm thick.
That is the moment that we are embarrassed, upset, forced to make time to tackle this hair.
Making time for ourselves is so important in this day and age. It seems as though everything is coming at us at one time. On occasion we don’t even know which way is up.
It is of the utmost importance that we commit to hair care that we can be proud of especially if our goal is to grow our hair long and strong. Maybe you want to thicken your hair. Commit to proper hair care.
“If your compassion does not include yourself, it is incomplete.” – Jack Kornfield
There are so many salons out there, however, don’t just go to any salon though. Take the time to do your research and find a salon that has experience and proof that they can take care of your type of hair. If you have natural type 4 hair, Straight hair, Curly hair, Wavy hair, damaged hair, dry hair, oily hair, if you want color, if you want to color gray hair. Do your research.
There was a time when I would drive 3 hours to a salon that took care of my hair. Sounds crazy, but when you are busy and don’t have time for mistakes or lack of hair education, you will be surprised at your flexibility when you can trust your stylist.
I know longer drive that far; I have found someone that is an hour away in the other direction. 😊
I was looking for a stylist that was not scissor happy and can straighten my hair without heat damage. It was so important to me to be able to wash my hair and have it curl back up. So, it took me a year of doing my own hair and taking vitamins, liquid collagen and drinking a lot of water to keep my hair in good enough shape until I could find someone.
If you don’t want to go to a salon, that is fine. Research your hair type and porosity. Learn what does not work for your hair and do your hair yourself.
Dedicate a day for your self-care. Pay for what you don’t want to do and what you like to do for yourself, do it yourself.
That’s it for now. 😊
To your self-care,
