“Mindfulness isn’t difficult, we just need to remember to do it.” Sharon Salzberg
Training our brains to remember to stay mindful regularly can be a challenge, especially if mindful behavior is something new for us.
It can be done though, with practice.
The more you incorporate mindfulness into your daily routine, the easier and more natural it will become to practice it.
So how can it be practiced?
Here is a basic way of practicing mindfulness that you can start today:
- Find a nice quiet place to be still. A place where you will not be interrupted.
- Get into a comfortable position. Now there’s no judgement here on positions. Whatever’s comfortable.
- Try and calm your mind. Begin by taking deep breaths. Slow deep breaths. No rush needed.
- Try and relax, a deeper “relax” than your usual version of relaxed.
- Feel your breath. Feel your body.
- Follow your breathing.
- Clear your mind and let it find peace and quiet.
Continue this exercise for as long as you can. There is no specific time limit. If you only have 5 minutes, well then, that is all you need. If you have more time, that is even better.
Side Note: Your mind will wonder in all kinds of directions during this exercise, when you take notice of this, simply bring yourself back to center and continue.
Calming your mind and coming full center is the goal.
Strive to keep your attention on the peace and quiet. Focusing on the present moment.
That is it, simple right? Yet so many of us don’t make time to practice it.
I hope this resonated with you somehow. I truly believe it is helpful. You’ll feel so much calmer afterwards.
To your best self,
Tysheena
